He has traveled from a general industrialist to becoming India's "Telecom King". And along with this journey being very funny, at many points, it teaches such important life, which is important to become a successful industry, which to know, read further .......
Early life and business
He was born in 1957 in Ludhiana, Punjab. His father Mr. Satpal Mittal was a well-known Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP. Despite this, he had to struggle a lot to reach such a big place in his life.
He wanted to make a successful entrepreneur, not becoming a politician like his father. He completed his graduation from Punjab University, and later started a business of selling a bicycle part by taking a loan of ₹ 20000 from his father as soon as he was 18 years old. Because he was new in this business, due to which he did not know much information and understanding of this business. Due to which he faced many problems in the early days.
He gradually started to understand this business and he further found that there is not much profit in this business. Due to which he stopped it, and tried many other businesses, in which he did not get any special success, due to which he started getting frustrated.
A good business:
This is from the year 1980, when a very big chance came in his hands. Actually "Suzuki Suzuki" company was looking for a dealer to sell its portable generator in India. Taking advantage of this special occasion, he started selling with Suzuki, importing Suzuki's portable generators to India and started selling the vegetables vendar and others.
But they quickly understood that, the more need of this generator is to those local shopkeepers and small dispensaries who have to face the problem of frequent light going. Further, he started selling these generators in shops and dispensary as well, due to which the demand for his generator increased a lot. So that Sunil earns a lot of profits.
But now he was going to get a very big shock. Because the import of generators is banned by the Government of India to increase the construction of generators in the country, and to prevent foreign currency. Which was no less than a shock for Sunil. Due to which his entire business stopped. He remained unemployed by doing nothing for several days, which he did not like.
A golden step
He wanted to do a new business, but he could not understand which business should be done. For which he thinks about going abroad, and thus he goes to Taiwan.
There he saw where people in India were using rotary dial telephone. In which the number are rotate to dial. Due to which or telephone used deteriorate again and again. At the same time, people were using push dial telephone in Taiwan. In which the numbers were dialed by pressing the button. Which was very easy to use, and there was also a poor reduction.
Due to which they see a good business opportunity in it. This is from 1984, when he took a golden step. He become a partner with Kingle, and start importing these telephone parts to India, collecting and selling those parts.
His thoughts become very successful.and Their telephone demand started growing too much, and there is a time that they decide to build their own telephone on given the demand.
To create a telephone from himself, he established the "Indian Telecom Limited (BTL)" by joining the Seman German company, and started making telephone in India. This business also started growing rapidly,
the year 1990 comes to 1990, he started by making a flex machine and other products, which he started to be considered a well-known company. And it gets more popularity.
Telecom Business
This is in the year 1992 when Sunil went for a holiday with his family, but at the same time the Government of India was inviting many foreign companies in telecom business. As soon as he knows this. So he too immediately leaves the holidays to get a license for this business and returns to India and starts preparing to get the license.
He further came to know that the Government of India will give licenses only to those companies who have experience of this business. But Sunil did not have the experience of this business. But to show experience to the Government of India, he shared a partnership with a reputed company called Vivindi. Due to which the license for telecom business is available in the year 1994, they also get technical assistance by vivindi.
Further in 1995, he established the "Bharti Cellular Limited (BCL)", and in 1997 its first mobile services launched in Delhi as Airtel, and Airtel begins from here.
Due to lack of money in the initial days, and lack of any special experience of this business, many problems came to him. Which he faced firmly.
Because this business was new at that time, due to which investors were also afraid of investing money in this business, and banks also did not give money to these companies. But he tried to raise money from investors and banks by trying to make a partnership with big companies like Ericsson and Nokia. Started tower across India.
He further focuses the target to improve the quality of his network, and starts offering good quality to customers. The reason he became the first Indian telecom company, which have a 2 million users.
He further takes control of Z holding and spicel Communication of Chennai in 1990 to increase his business in South India. Due to which their business also starts growing in South India.
Sunil believes in doing social service as well as doing business. Due to which in the year 2000, he established the Bharti Airtel Foundation. By whom those children who cannot read for any reason, do many things to help in reading them.
Conflict and success
He started moving forward very fast. But the trouble came to light when the Government of India established BSNL in the year 2000. and The competition in this business increases.
Where Airtel was going through a problem of lack of money; The same BSNL was not lacking the of means, due to the support of the Government of India. Due to which he also reached his mobile network to those places. As far as reaching Chittia was difficult.
While Airtel's network packages used to be very expensive, the same BSNL started offering services like Airtel to customers at a very low price. Due to which the customers left Airtel and started going to BSNL, which becomes a very big problem for Sunil.
But there was also a problem with BSNL. Because they have more customers than capacity, due to which their network starts getting very stress. Due to which when the customer used to call a person, that call used to be cut in the middle. And customers were facing many other problems.
Seeing this opportunity, he insisted on improving his network and invented. Due to which the customers started coming to them again. He launched his IPO in 2002 and started growing his business even faster. For this, he reduced the price of his services by 60%. He was successful in creating a very good customer base on the basis of his good network and best service. Due to which by March 2005, he could become India's largest mobile operator.
Foreign expansion and development
Sunil is always thinking of growing up. Now he wanted to spread his business abroad as well. This is of the year 2010. When he was offering mobile services in 15 countries in Africa called Zen Telecom. Buy it for 48 thousand crores rupees and take it under their control. This was his golden low. Due to which he is able to increase his business even in 15 countries of Africa. In which at very low prices there, they started serving the people of Africa.
After this, many other telecom services like Aircel, Telenor, Vodafone, Idea Tata Open Up, also came to the market. Due to which the competition will increase even more. But still he dated his place.
This is from the year 2012. When he started the first 4G services in India by Airtel when he struggled very much, and from here Airtel's Golden Age begins. Due to a good 4G and fast network getting on affordable power, customers start coming to them even more fast. And he started moving forward with great speed. By the year 2015, he had achieved success to get 3 crore customers. Which is a very big thing.
Biggest trouble
But his golden era did not last even for 4 years. Because in 2016, the biggest problem till date was going to come before him. When Mukesh Ambani launches Jio telecom network. Which is half - charges compared to these companies, they started offering their services to customers.
Due to which customers leave the rest of the companies and come to them. The reason Telecom Company was losing its planets. Where more than 12 telecom services in India were destroyed, either sold. Now along with the other company, Airtel also started fighting its existence.
During which Airtels profits fall by 70%, and the company starts going into the liability . But Sunil works even more hard for his company, and is successful in saving the existence of his company on the strength of his understanding.
Turning himself together, he also launched many other products like Airtel Extreme Fiber, Air Fiber, and Setup Box. Today, Sunil due to understanding and hard work, Artel is giving his service in more than 18 countries in the world, with India's largest mobile service company.
The result of all these steps is that today his total property is $ 27.3 Billion, which makes him the 7th richest person in India. This is the story of Sunil Bharti Mittal. Thank you...
